General Questions

What is Samvise?

Samvise is an AI-powered task scheduling application that helps you manage your tasks and calendar intelligently. Instead of just listing tasks, Samvise automatically schedules them into your calendar based on your availability, priorities, and deadlines.

What platforms does Samvise support?

Samvise is a web application that works on any modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge). It's fully responsive and works on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices. Native mobile apps are in development.

Do I need a Google account?

No, you can sign up with any email address. However, connecting a Google account is recommended for Google Calendar integration, which significantly improves scheduling effectiveness.

How is this different from other task managers?

Most task managers just list your tasks. Samvise actually schedules them into your calendar automatically, finding time slots based on your priorities, deadlines, and availability. It combines task management, calendar management, and automatic scheduling in one tool.

Getting Started

How do I create my first task?

Click the "+ New Task" button (or press N), enter a title, and optionally add details like priority, due date, and time estimate. Or open the AI chat and say "Create task to review budget by Friday."

What are time windows?

Time windows define when you want to work on different types of tasks. For example, "Work" might be Monday-Friday 9 AM-5 PM, while "Personal" might be evenings and weekends. Tasks can only be scheduled during their assigned time window.

Do I have to set up time windows?

You'll create at least one time window during onboarding (usually "Work" or "General"). You can add more later to separate different types of work, but it's not required.

How do priorities work?

Samvise uses three priority levels: Low, Medium, and High. The scheduler places High-priority tasks first, then Medium, then Low — and overdue tasks jump the queue entirely. See Task Priorities.

Calendar Integration

Do I need to connect Google Calendar?

No, but it's highly recommended. Connecting your calendar allows Samvise to understand when you're busy and avoid scheduling conflicts. Without it, scheduling is less effective.

Can I use multiple calendars?

Yes. You choose which of your Google Calendars Samvise reads for availability (up to 5 on the free plan). Tasks are scheduled to a dedicated "App Schedule" calendar created by Samvise.

Will Samvise modify my existing calendar events?

No, Samvise only reads your existing events to understand your schedule. It only creates and manages events in the "App Schedule" calendar for tasks you create in Samvise.

Can I use Outlook/Apple Calendar?

Currently, only Google Calendar is supported.

How often does the calendar sync?

Automatically — when your Google Calendar changes, Samvise picks it up and adjusts your task schedule, and when your task schedule changes, the "App Schedule" calendar is updated.

AI & Scheduling

How does automatic scheduling work?

The scheduler looks at your calendar availability, task priorities, deadlines, and time estimates to place tasks into open slots inside your time windows. See How Scheduling Works.

Can I manually schedule tasks?

Yes! You can drag and drop blocks in the calendar view, or schedule a task at a specific time. Manually placed blocks are locked so the scheduler leaves them where you put them.

What if I don't like where something was scheduled?

Just drag it to a different time in the calendar. You can also lock blocks to prevent the scheduler from moving them.

Does the scheduler learn from my behavior?

No — the scheduler uses your explicit inputs (priorities, due dates, time estimates, time windows) to make decisions, so its behavior is predictable and steerable.

Can the chat assistant create tasks for me?

Yes. Tell it what you need to do in natural language, and it will create tasks with appropriate priorities, due dates, and time estimates. Reversible actions can run automatically (with an Undo button), and destructive actions always ask for confirmation first.

Can I ask "what if" questions?

Yes — ask things like "would a new 3-hour task fit this week?" or "what if I push the report to Friday?" The assistant simulates the change against your real schedule without saving anything.

Privacy & Security

Is my data secure?

Yes, all data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. We use Row-Level Security to ensure you can only access your own data. OAuth tokens are securely encrypted.

Can I export my data?

Yes, you can export all your data anytime from Settings. Exports are available in JSON (complete data) or CSV (spreadsheet, per table or all tables as a ZIP).

How do I delete my account?

Go to Settings and request account deletion. You'll confirm the request before anything is deleted; an unconfirmed request expires after 24 hours, and you can cancel it any time before confirming.

Where is my data stored?

Data is stored in secure cloud databases with encryption at rest.

Do you sell my data?

Never. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties. Your data is yours.

Tasks

What's the difference between due date and scheduled time?

Due date is your deadline — when the task must be completed. Scheduled time is when you plan to work on it. A task might be due Friday but scheduled for Wednesday.

Can I have recurring tasks?

Yes, you can create tasks that repeat daily, weekly, or monthly, with flexible end conditions. See Recurring Tasks.

Can a long task be split across multiple sessions?

Yes — by default, longer tasks are split into work sessions of up to 2 hours each (adjustable in Settings). Mark a task "do not split" if it needs one continuous block.

Can I undo a change?

Yes. Completing a task from the list shows an Undo button in the confirmation toast, and AI actions in chat can be undone right after they run.

Chat

Does chat remember previous conversations?

Each chat session is a separate conversation. Opening the chat starts a fresh conversation by default; your previous chats are available in the history list. You can disable or clear chat history in Settings.

Is there a limit on chat length?

Yes — very long sessions are capped. You'll see a notice when a chat is getting long, and once a session is full you'll be prompted to start a new chat.

Can I attach files in chat?

Yes — up to 10 files per message (5 MB per file, 15 MB total per message).

Features

Can I collaborate with others?

Currently, Samvise is designed for individual use. You can share your "App Schedule" calendar with others to show your availability.

Is there a mobile app?

Native mobile apps are in development. The web app is fully responsive and works well on mobile browsers.

Can I use keyboard shortcuts?

Yes! Press ? anywhere to see the full list — for example N for a new task, ⌘K for the command palette, and ] to toggle the AI chat panel.

Can I customize colors and themes?

Yes, you can choose between light mode, dark mode, or auto (follows system). Each time window has a customizable color for visual organization. You can also choose a 12-hour or 24-hour clock in Settings.

Tips & Best Practices

How should I estimate task durations?

Be realistic and err on the side of overestimating. Include buffer for interruptions and context switching, and adjust estimates as you learn how long things actually take.

What's the best way to organize tasks?

Use time windows to separate types of work (Work vs. Personal), priorities for importance (Low/Medium/High), and projects for grouping related tasks. Keep your active task list focused for best results.

How often should I review my schedule?

Check your schedule each morning and adjust as needed. Do a weekly review to update priorities and due dates and clear completed tasks.

Should I schedule everything?

No, leave some unscheduled time for flexibility, interruptions, and ad-hoc work. A good rule: schedule 60-70% of your time, leave 30-40% flexible.

What if my schedule changes during the day?

Drag affected blocks to new times, or just update the underlying tasks — the scheduler automatically adapts to your changes.
