Managing Events
How to work with calendar events and scheduled blocks in Samvise
Managing Events
Learn how to view, edit, and manage both your Google Calendar events and Samvise-scheduled task blocks.
Viewing Events
Calendar View
Your calendar shows:
- Scheduled task blocks - Tasks placed by Samvise (synced to "App Schedule")
- Busy events - Your Google Calendar events, shown so you can see your real availability
Task blocks are colored by time window; busy events are visually distinct so you can tell them apart at a glance.
Event Details
Click a task block to see the task's details — title, time, priority, and lock status.
Working with Task Blocks
Drag to Reschedule
- Click and drag a block to a new time
- The task and the Google Calendar event update
- Moved blocks are locked so the scheduler keeps them where you put them
Resize Duration
- Drag the edge of a block to adjust its duration
- The Google Calendar event updates to match
Locking and Unlocking
Lock a Block
- Prevents the scheduler from moving it
- Manually placed and moved blocks are locked automatically
- Locked blocks show a lock indicator
Unlock a Block
- Lets the scheduler move it again when your schedule changes
When to Lock
- Time-sensitive work
- Sessions coordinated with others
- Anything that must happen at a specific time
Deleting Blocks
Deleting a block removes that work session from the calendar (and from Google Calendar) — the task itself stays on your list and can be rescheduled. Deleting the task removes the task and its blocks.
Google Calendar Events
Read-Only in Samvise
Samvise displays your Google events and plans around them, but never modifies them:
- Edit them in Google Calendar directly
- Changes sync to Samvise automatically
Busy Time
Events on your selected calendars mark time as busy — tasks are never scheduled over them. If a calendar shouldn't affect your availability (holidays, birthdays), deselect it in Settings > Google Calendar.
Recurring Events
Google Calendar Recurring Events
- Each occurrence counts as busy time
- Edit the series or single instances in Google Calendar; changes sync to Samvise
Samvise Recurring Tasks
- Each occurrence appears as its own block
- Fixed-time occurrences are locked at their set time
- You can skip individual occurrences — see Recurring Tasks
Time Zones
- All events are displayed in your configured timezone (Settings > Timezone)
- Changing your timezone updates your schedule automatically
- Daylight saving transitions are handled automatically
Reminders
- Google Calendar reminders on your own events keep working as configured — Samvise doesn't touch them
- For task reminders, configure lead time and channels in Settings > Notifications
Best Practices
Keep Your Calendar Complete
- Add all commitments, including tentative ones and travel time — Samvise can only plan around what it can see
Honor Scheduled Blocks
- Treat task blocks like meetings with yourself
- If you can't do one, move it rather than ignoring it — the scheduler adapts
Don't Over-Pack
- Leave breathing room; an optional buffer between blocks is available in Settings > Scheduling
Troubleshooting
Events not showing
- Verify the calendar is selected for sync in Settings > Google Calendar
- Check the sync status in Settings
Wrong times displaying
- Verify your timezone setting
Can't edit an event
- Google Calendar events are read-only in Samvise — edit them in Google
