Using Chat

Learn how to use Samvise's AI chat assistant

The AI chat assistant helps you manage tasks and your schedule using natural language.

Getting Started with Chat

Open the chat panel with the chat icon, or press ] anywhere in the app. Opening chat starts a fresh conversation by default — your previous chats are one click away in the history list.

What You Can Do

Create Tasks

  • "Add a task to finish the quarterly report by Friday"
  • "Create a task to call Sarah tomorrow at 2pm"
  • "I need to review PRs this week"

Manage Schedule

  • "When am I free tomorrow afternoon?"
  • "Move my meeting prep to Thursday"
  • "Show me what's on my schedule today"

Ask "What If" Questions

  • "Would a new 3-hour task fit this week?"
  • "What if I push the report to Friday?"
  • The assistant simulates the change against your real schedule without saving anything

Ask Questions

  • "How much time do I have available this week?"
  • "What tasks are due soon?"
  • "Show me high-priority tasks"

How Actions Are Confirmed

The assistant is careful with your data:

  • Reading (searching tasks, checking availability) happens instantly — nothing changes
  • Reversible changes (creating or editing tasks, moving blocks) run automatically by default, with an Undo button right after — so you can accept the result or take it straight back
  • Destructive changes (deleting tasks or blocks) always ask for your explicit confirmation first

Prefer to approve everything manually? Turn off "Auto-apply reversible actions" in Settings > Chat — then every change waits for your confirmation.

Undo

After the assistant makes a change, an Undo control appears. Use it to reverse the whole action — including multi-task changes — in one click. Undo is available for a short window after the action runs.

Attachments

You can attach files to a message — up to 10 files, 5 MB per file, 15 MB total per message. File sharing with the AI is controlled by a consent setting the first time you attach something.

Session Length

Very long conversations are capped:

  • You'll see a notice when a chat is getting long
  • Once a session is full, you'll be prompted to start a new chat — the old conversation stays in your history

Starting fresh regularly also keeps responses fast and focused.

Tips for Better Results

Be Specific Instead of "schedule meeting", try "schedule client meeting for 1 hour on Tuesday afternoon"

Include Context "Review the design mockups before Friday's presentation"

Use Natural Language The AI understands casual phrasing. Talk naturally.

Provide Timeframes "this week", "tomorrow afternoon", "by end of month"

Chat History

Conversations are saved by default so you can revisit them from the history list. In Settings > Chat you can disable history or clear all saved conversations.

Best Practices

  • Start with simple requests
  • Review what the assistant did — Undo is always there if the result isn't what you wanted
  • Give the assistant concrete details (dates, durations, priorities) for better results
